Source: Crawfordsville Review Oct 7, 1924 p 1

"Walnut Bend news" – Frank Porter, who is a Government Veterinary has been moved from Ft. Worth, Texas to Houston, Texas to work on the hoof and mouth disease. It has gained a desperate hold in that section and everything possible is being done to eradicate it. Huge trenches are dug and the cattle drive in it to meet their death and they are then buried. He sent a picture home showing a great drove of cattle being drive in one of the trenches. The disease is spreading to horses, hogs, dogs or any other animals going over places where the infected cattle have been. Mr. Porter wears rubber clothing while at work. He was born and lived in this community while young. - transcribed by kbz
